‘xp.’ stands for ‘experience points.’ Gamers get experience points for completing questions and actions in games. We sometimes play life like that, right? But what if life’s more than just accumulating xp.?

xp. is a discussion-based resource designed for young people with little or no faith background. Created in Australia, it helps young people explore life, meaning, and faith through honest conversation and curiosity-led discovery.

xp. is pitched a little earlier in the faith journey than other resources. It’s where the research says most young people are at culturally and spiritually. (This might be a different faith space than the one you’re used to.) But leading xp. is simple — here’s how it works:

  • Grab your group: Jesus loved to be with others and so do we. xp. works best in groups.

  • Grab some food: Jesus loved to eat food with people and so do we. xp. sessions work best around food - so make sure you eat before, or after and during together. (Don’t skip this)

  • Grab xp.: Jesus loved engaging people with questions and stories and so do we. Each episode has a bunch of stories and 3 breakout discussions designed to start (not finish) a conversation.

Be prepared to slow down and walk at a different pace, ask some different questions, and not jump to answers. The goal is to facilitate exploration and create curiosity.

What are the lessons like?

Each of the 9 sessions is designed to help you lead meaningful conversations with confidence, even if you’re new to discussion-based ministry. Every lesson follows a simple, engaging format:

  • Intro – break the ice with a fun game or activity

  • Press Play – watch the episode together and pause for discussion along the way

  • More Questions – use the scripted discussion guide to help conversations flow naturally

  • More xp. – explore a hands-on activity connected to the theme

  • More Bible – discover a Bible passage that connects with the conversation

  • Weekly Challenge – encourage young people to try something during the week and share back next time

Everything is designed to create space for curiosity, honest discussion, and deeper exploration of life and faith.

CURRICULUM GUIDE

Explore the big questions through these 9 discussion-based lessons:

  1. Adventure: Are we there yet? Our desire for adventure reveals something about who we are.

  2. Happiness: What does real happiness look like? The happiness binge isn’t real. Find joy.

  3. Real: What if we could be real? What if we could be real and didn’t have to fake it?

  4. Hope: Anxious? We need a story that gives us hope.

  5. Wonder: What’s for lunch? Wonder is the beginning of being in the world.

  6. More: Is there more? A bigger story might help us discover who we are

  7. Special: Is life special? We need a story that helps us step into the ‘special’ of the universe.

  8. Meaning: Why are we here? Meaning exists, but where?

  9. Connection: Who are we here for? It’s about relationships.
