This is RaiseUpFaith’s philosophy on preschool discipleship — the first in a series exploring how we form faith at every age.

What Preschool Discipleship Really Means

Preschool discipleship begins with this important idea: young children are already participants in God’s Kingdom. Even at the earliest of ages, they are forming deep ideas about love, trust, belonging, and identity. That means preschool ministry is far more than childcare with Bible stories. It is the sacred work of shaping a child’s earliest understanding of life with God.

At RaiseUpFaith, we believe the goal of preschool discipleship is not primarily information transfer, but formation. Preschoolers learn best through attachment, repetition, play, story, music, movement, and wonder. Before children can fully understand big ideas about God, they are learning what it feels like to be loved by Him and welcomed by His people.

We want children to know:

  • God loves me.

  • God is good.

  • Jesus loves me.

  • Jesus wants to be my friend.

  • Church is a safe place.

  • Prayer is talking with God.

  • The Bible is God’s story.

A Relational God, A Relational Ministry

We believe God exists in loving relationship as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and invites us into that relationship. Because God reveals Himself relationally, preschool discipleship must also be deeply relational. Warm, trustworthy leaders become living reflections of God’s care and compassion.

This is why safety matters spiritually. Consistent routines, gentle environments, joyful worship, and caring adults help children develop trust.

We also believe wonder is central to formation. Preschoolers naturally respond to awe, creativity, and joy. Rather than rushing children toward a ‘grown-up faith,’ we honour the pace of development by telling God’s story simply, clearly, and repeatedly, while inviting children to participate through play, prayer, singing, imagination, and response.

Text reads: "Preschool ministry is far more than childcare with Bible stories. It is the sacred work of shaping a child's earliest understanding of life with God."

Our Vision: Safe and Loved

Our developmental vision for preschool ministry is simple: safe and loved.

These are not small goals. When children experience belonging, joy, prayer, Scripture, and loving community, they are being formed in the way of Jesus in lasting ways. Small moments, repeated consistently, become the foundations of lifelong faith.
